The 100 Best Jobs of 2015 - from the U.S. News and World Report

An interesting article/FI. These jobs are ranked too.

US News: Money: The 100 Best Jobs.

What are #1-5? Dentist, Nurse Practitioner, Software Developer, Physician, and Dental Hygienist.

As expected, there are many medical jobs and also technical/computer jobs here.

Thinking back, my English degree was useful, but mostly I took it because I needed to get out of school!

Then my Education degree was helpful too, because this field of study not only teaches about how to teach, but also how people learn.

Of course, the job for YOU may not be on this list. But if you are not sure, you may want to check these out.

Court Case of Daymar College vs. Students goes in students' favor.

This is a big story in my book.

It may have had a news story on TV too, but I don't always watch the news, so I don't know for sure.

It is about a for-profit school, which allegedly told students that their credits would transfer (and they didn't), and also had the students sign a form barring them from suing, which the court said was non-binding. The students also said the school gave "bogus" claims about job placement. Here is more:

Daymar College to Settle with Ex-Students - from the Louisville Courier-Journal.

We have a Daymar College campus here where I live too.

It is a for-profit college, and perhaps some of its advisors told students their credits would transfer, but they didn't. And they didn't have much job help either, it seems.

So... be careful! Do your research on schools, for sure. And double-check claims, too, with other people before owing a LOT of money and not getting what you were promised.

Here is some history:
Attorney General Conway Files Suit against Daymar College (July 2011, revised 2013)

Students sue over Daymar College "lies" - April, 2014

Daymar College Locations: Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky...

I wonder if this For-Profit School chain will stay in business after this... it's hard to say.

And here is another posting about for-profit schools - - it has a video too.

More Advice for the Nontraditional Student - 15 Tips

You may or may not have heard these tips before.

But they are things that may REALLY help you out as you go back to school.

#1. Let other people answer the teacher besides you. You don't have to always hold your hand up. And limit how long you talk. Other people want to enter in.

#2. Try looking for scholarships before you are in school. You never know!

#3. If you don't have great eyesight or hearing, sit in the front - even if this is uncomfortable for you at first.

#4. TAKE NOTES if at all possible. If not, record your classes (if they are lecture-style)

#5. Make some friends.

#6. Make a study group if you need to.

#7. Think positive, this can make a difference.

#8. Don't take too many classes at once.

#9. Drop classes by the deadline, or you can really regret it.

#10. Make sure to know your prerequisites... and plan for what classes to take when. (Ask your Advisor if you are not sure... it's worth the time...)

#11. Try to have a relationship with your teacher AND at least a few of your classmates, if possible.

#12. Be friendly.

#13. Always carry a Scheduler or Calendar. Use it.

#14. Never wait for the last minute on assignments.

#15. If you have a hard time in a class, don't lose heart. You can always take it over, IF you need to.
