  1. The nontraditional student programs include options for both full time and part-time study, although both options are not necessarily available in each institution. Many universities offer programs within their regular curriculum to serve nontraditional students. Women with a long tradition in the universities have offered programs for older women who would like to return to school, such as Agnes Scott College program Irene K. Woodruff back to school, Frances Perkins Program Mount Holyoke College, Simmons College (Massachusetts) 's Dorothea Lynde Dix Scholars Program, Smith College Ada Comstock Scholars Program, University of Bryn Mawr Katherine McBride Scholars Program, and Wellesley College Degree Davis Program. Similarly, the REAL program at Tufts University (Continuing Education Adult Learners) was originally intended to draw young mothers back into higher education, but soon expanded to support the men and women 24 years or more .

The programs have become more common place, which extends even to universities in the Ivy League universities. Yale University has an option for nontraditional students through its Eli Whitney Students Program. "Students Whitney" take classes with other students and may choose to obtain a diploma or degree. Eli Whitney Students Program is very small and very competitive. Brown University also has a similar program called Resumed Undergraduate Education.
